Ahmedabad: You run a boutique and imagine yourself being grilled by cops for a “terror e-mail” sent by you. Obviously the goings-on might go beyond your comprehension, but don’t be surprised. Another Virginia Tech tragedy rekindles a debate on guns

Get alerts when there is a new article from the Baltimore Hunting and Fishing Examiner. Read Examiner.com’s Almost a year after a horrible beheading, Virginia Tech is again visited by tragedy. This time two students are shot and killed in the parking lot of a trail-head near Blacksburg Virginia. This incident will no doubt revive the debate on whether backpackers should arm themselves when traveling in remote areas. This is not the first time that an event like this has occurred in our area and unfortunately it probably will not be the last. The choice of whether to carry a firearm for self defense is a personal decision that can only be made by the individual. Whether it is protection from…

Video: ASUS EeeTop PC ET2002T gets touched up

Posted by admin | Posted in Technology | Posted on 31-08-2009

We might already have all the specalicious details on the new EeeTops from ASUS, but it never hurts to see one in action, right? Taking center stage here is the voice-activated widgetry ASUS has added to its Windows 7 install, allowing you to check the weather, play music, and even initiate Skype calls solely via the awesomeness of your voice. Expected to retail at €599 in Europe, the 20-inch ET2002T definitely looks sleek, though its screen is glossy enough for the camera girl to wave at us surreptitiously a number of times. Check it out, but be warned, there’s a small bit of salty language midway through, which is as inappropriate for the office as it is hilarious.

Loving your Xtreamer media player? The company’s gearing up for a much larger, more versatile NAS complement that supports up to 4TB of storage across two bays, and anyone who’s purchased last year’s model by November 1st will get a chance to pre-order this one for €59 (US $84) when the listing opens on that day. It’s bring-your-own-disk drives, but otherwise you’re getting a Windows 7 / Snow Leopard-compliant server that supports RAID 0 / 1, torrent management, 802.11n (with dongle), and a surveillance webcam for remote snooping that’s due out by Christmas of this year. After November 1st the price jumps to €99, and those who don’t have the current Xtreamer will have to pick up both as a €198 set. No ship date yet, but we’re supposed to be hearing more details, including full specs, in the coming days.

How would you change Pentax’s K-7 DSLR?

Posted by admin | Posted in Technology | Posted on 29-08-2009

Pentax may not be the first name you think of when scouting a new DSLR, but it’s certainly closer to the top now than it was prior to the K-7′s release. The semi-pro cam saw positive review after positive review flow in, giving even the Nikon and Canon faithful reason to pay attention. At right under $1,300 for just the body it didn’t come cheap, though the high-def movie capture mode, ability to snap HDR shots natively and 14.6 megapixel sensor help to justify the MSRP somewhat. What we’re really after here are your thoughts; for those that bought in, have you been pleased? Is the low-light performance sufficient? Is the autofocus snappy enough for your tastes? Or more importantly, how happy are your clients with the results? Comments are all yours, so get to it!

Hamid Karzai, the incumbent in Afghanistan’s presidential poll, has widened his lead with 42 per cent of the vote as partial results of last week’s election continue to trickle in. Abdullah Abdullah, his main challenger and a former foreign minister, was trailing with 33 per cent as Karzai inched closer to the 50 per cent threshold that would allow him to avoid a run-off. Coming in a distant third was Ramazan Bashar-dost with 11 per cent, while the rest of the votes were shared among the remaining candidates. Karzai had 422,137…
